So, recently I’ve been reading on Facebook that you mustn’t travel to 2019 with 2018 issues.
But 2018 been so much it’s so hard to actually sum it up in one post. So I’ll probably do it when I’m up at night one of these lit festive evenings.
For a little background, I’m from Luka, a village in Rustenburg just 10 mins drive from the Royal Bafokeng Stadium. A ball player, poet and most of the things you’ll read if you continue following my blog (like for real I’m tryna write more next year).
Now, like last week I was watching Trevor Noah (lost in dark stand-up comedy) and the most profound thing he said was ‘travel, it’s one thing you’ll never waste your money on…’, there’s a lot of things that leaded me here but for sake of dizzy-tyt (December time) I’ll try to keep it short and sharp.
For those who don’t know Manzweni is a very rural place with little development compared to cities. Lol, Luka isn’t a city but wayyy better developed than here (sadly).
So, here, 18 lessons from last 3 days since getting here:
1. Have a guide.
Like a mentor, before you embark on any journey you must know it’s destination, find a realible source of information that you can rely on to use as your guide on your trip.
2. Carry your stick
As in like know your purpose, mission and vision. You need to know where you’re going, like in the jungle you need stick to clear out the way, so does life.
Have something that’ll remind you what you need to be doing and it’ll help you save time and so much valuable energy.
3. Check the sun
I want to speak so much about time but I’ll need probably 50 posts to successfully share my view here.
You definitely don’t want to be in the jungle at night the same way you don’t want to regret not following your passion in life. It kills, literally. Like in the jungle you’ll die? Don’t dream too long before the world wakes you up.
Let’s not act like we don’t know what we need to be doing and act nje simple.
4. Bring your dogs.
Dogs in the jungle see other animals, other dangers but are also the main reason people get bitten by snakes.
Okay, as much as solitude helps you learn about yourself, other people help you learn about the world, different lenses are so important to help you from being blinded by naivety and ignorance. But watch out people change, you’re allowed to change your relations if they aren’t helping.
Lmaoo imagine getting bit by a snake over a dog that don’t bite.
5. Fuck your feelings.
Honestly life and dreams don’t care about how we feel, we’re here to pursue the dreams that haunt us every night and won’t stop cos you’re pissed.
You’ll see in the jungle how animals disregard each other feelings to get what they want. Think of one time anger has helped you get anything.
6. Be present
Animals take advantage of those who are weak and misfocus is a weak attribute, ever seen a springbok sleeping?
Don’t be caught up in your mind so much it numbs you to reality, cos the brain is good at this, it’ll create so many pictures and fantasies to make you forget that you actually have to get up and do shit.
7. The rise is hard.
As getting up the mountain there’s a point where your brain will ask you if what you’re doing isn’t stupid? It’ll convince you that it is, cos you’ll have to walk down anyways.
It’s all the same with life, it will look harder everytime you take a step towards your dreams, you’ll feel with contradicting feelings inside of you, sometimes it’ll seem so hard to believe that it was so easy to make progress, sometimes it’ll just be hard to make progress for real, keep moving up anyway.
8. Being short helps
The jungle has trees, it definitely helps to be short to duck them.
But on the real, to protect your peace and energy from the world you need to be lowkey. It’ll help you avoid unnecessary criticism and arguments that might change your view of your goal.
9. Follow the birds
Birds literally only eat insect, unless the cow is dead. Imagine, with its ability to fly who’d catch it.
There are so many people in different paths of life that can help you with what you want to achieve, find these excellent people and only ask for specific help. Something you’re sure they are good at.
10. Don’t fight nature.
You won’t win.
You and nature are one (forget what you learnt) and sometimes nature will give you signs, listen, don’t force things, people who want to help will help(if you ask nicely)
11. Save water.
Water is essence to life, we will never live without it. Ever. If it finishes while you’re in the jungle, you die.
So, use your resources (equipment, people, connections) wisely. You don’t want to know what happens if lose all of it.
12. Check for tracks
Tracks in jungle will show you what’s been happening, look for trends in the lives of people who’ve made it in your field.
13. Don’t use all the rocks
Some rocks are steady and strong and some just look like that.
In life, don’t be reactive, don’t just take what comes otherwise you’ll end up taking opportunities that aren’t worth it all. Be vigilant and evaluate what each choice has in store for you.
14. Don’t eat other people livestock
Firstly, it’s illegal, I don’t want to talk about all the other stuff that might happen to you.
In life, mind your business.
15. You’re not alone
In the jungle you’re rarely alone, you’re either with people or other animals. Either to help you or eat you.
As I said you need to mind your business, when it booms (succeeds) or fails, you’re not alone, people will be there to help you as others are there to laugh at you, it’s life.
16. It never makes sense
How animals act is nonsense, like life things won’t go in accordance with your plans, but you need to go on.
17. If you milk a cow, drink the milk first.
Your needs are the most important in life, actually you’re the most important person in your life. Whatever you do must benefit you first before anyone else.
18. Be a G. O. A. T
Did you know that goats actually sit around their place until someone comes to get them inside.
Lmaoo sometimes you have to act petty to remind people of your greatness.
So there is it, manzweni was good, a great experience but a great teacher in all, like everything in life.
